I respectably disagree with Dr. Richard Chudacoff and associates ideas for health insurance, or coverage. "Health care is a privilege, not a right". "The government should intervene only in cases of last resort".
It apparently is unclear to Dr. Chudacoff that we, as a nation, are at the point of last resort! In fact, we have been there for many years, with no politicians courageous enough to willingly put their future jobs at risk, to do what, only government can do, to fix the problem. The problem could have been fixed by a joint effort on the part of the millions of physicians, unionized in an effort to combat the problem; but, alas, they were not the ones suffering, were they? Now it looks like they may be slightly adversely effected by the Obama plan, and it is time to mass together to destroy the only plan offered in the last 50 years to help the millions of productive cogs in the wheel of the American system, who, apparently don't deserve the privilege of health care. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dr. Chudacoff said, "Physicians can cure the funding crisis without heavy-handed government intervention". Of course they could... But they didn't! THAT'S WHY THE GOVERNMENT IS. I like Dr. Chudacoffs' analogy of car care, it promotes responsibility, I too hate those irresponsible children with cancer and other maladies. The real zinger is, Doctors could do far more pro bono work if they got paid better. Hay, so could I and all other working class citizens of this world.
It probably sounds like I am angry with Dr Chudacoff and his like minded physicians, I am not! He has many concepts, and ideas, which I agree with. The problem with Dr. Chudacoff and many others, is their narrowly focused view of the problem. They were all typically educated in public schools in their youth, and their higher education was at partially funded public universities and colleges. They were supported throughout their lives, in part, by our publicly supported system of government, i.e., Military so that they have a country to practice their medicine in. Police so that they are protected from harm, unlike Mexico and most other countries of the world. Firefighters to save them when they make mistakes, or "are irresponsible". Government to facilitate our way of life, and to organize our countries' infrastructure. And too many other public systems to mention, that go hand-in-hand to provide for our way of life in this country.
Do you really support a system, where, if a person were dying on the ground, the responding ambulance would need check the patients' ability to pay first, and if unable, leave them for the dogs to eat? How priggishly and self serving, to have received so much, and then refuse health care to the little people who contribute to your lifestyle. All I ask, is that you open your eyes to the full picture. Do you really think we should revert to (survival of the fittest)? Suspend our human compassion to enrich our bank accounts?
In the media we see angry protesters against Obama's health plan, because they are financially capable of doing so. The polls indicate a majority against Obama's plan, because the polls interview in areas of affluence. Poll the uninsured to see what you come up with, I'll bet you will see a completely reversed decision. We have an opportunity to fix our broken system, let's not pass it up for the sake of corporate profits .
Sincerely, John Aarness
